Hi birdlovers out there. Have just been reading some of your queries and remarks. I am a relatively newcomer to computering and so unfortunately have never had the privilege of experiencing any of Cetti's submissions.
I have just had a camera installed in my bird box and wonder does anyone have any experience of this. A pair of great tits build in it every year and am hopeful that the camera wont deter them this year. When do I switch the thing on? If they were installed would they be aware of it being turned on. I suppose thats a stupid question. Anyway I'd be very grateful for any tips some of you might have to share

It all depends on what type of camera you are using.
A webcam often has a small red light to indicate it is on. If so, it might help if you regularly turn it on and off while the birds are in the box they will soon become used to it. This is wired to a computer so can be activate remotely (via your computer).
There are free programs available on the Net that will instruct your webcam to take a picture every minute, 10 minutes, hour or whatever you set it too. Ofcourse, you'll need to leave your computer on while this is going on. Through the same program you can also record actual video clips, say of the birds being fed.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks Wildwood for all that info. Wouldn't you expect from my title that I'd be well up on all matters, I'm afraid I'm a real greenhorn when it comes to technology. The camera was bought on the internet, it seems to be a very simple pieceof equipment. There's no name apart from "Wireless surveillance system"!! I would plan to switch the camera on once I know they are installed, then check the TV from time to time. How does that sound to you?
( Must see about changing my identity. I get a lot of stick about it)
