Puppy eating Poo

My female pup (a yorkie/JR cross) has been a voracious feeder since we got her. She would quite happily eat her own dinner, our other dogs dinner and the 2 cats food all in one sitting, if allowed.

However, her new habit of eating poo outside has just resulted in her having a really bad bout of gastro enteritus and being in doggy hospital for 2 days and a bill of 390 for me.

Apart from keeping her on the lead all the time until she grows out of the habit, can anyone suggest anything they have found successful in curbing this yucky habit.

Incidentally, my JR did also go through this, but only ate the cats poo in the garden and didnt get ill from it. Has now grown out of the habit.

Thanks for that suggestion, but unfortunately its not her own poo she eats, but from the ground when we take her on the field. I did wonder about doctoring a poo with something like that and leaving it for her to find... but thats too gross and might make her really ill again.
Give her some pineapple in her food. Don't know how but it works.

I've heard that but didn't know what it was for! Thanks, will try it.
I thought that was only when they ate their own poo Lankeela ?
i saw a brilliant gaget on dog borstal a citronella collar. this dog kept eating poo and when the dog went near a pile a remote control sprays the dog in the oil it is harmless but the dog hates the smell, it worked within a week try ebay there might be one on there
Spray chilli-blend on her own poo, or go out and secretly doctor some poo in the park (if anyone has been dirty enough not to pick up!). It might just put her off.

Or, go to a behaviourist and get them to teach you how to use a rattle-bottle (don't do this without qualified help).
Hi, I would have a close look at her diet, dogs that are fed on a complete dried meal, tend to find poo very tasty. i feed my dogs complete food but out of 4 only 1 finds it tasty, the only thing you can do, is stop her doing it by not letting her off the lead and cleaning up after her. Try giving her a bone to chew on and raw chicken wings, this did stop mine for a couple of days, i also give raw carrots, brocoli and they love bananas...a bit of variation might help.
there is a train of thought that says it is the dogs way of saying they are lacking something...
Good luck.
