Hi All,
I've just discovered that my Jack has swollen jowls, reaching all the way from left to right. Does anyone know any of the causes of this, or been through it themselves? He seems to be generally well within himself and not behaving any different other than a bit lethargic at times which I have been putting down to the warm weather.
I am obviously taking him to the vet at the first possible appointment, but I would just like to rest my mind this evening...Thanks in advance!!!

He could have had a bee sting, a virus, or a bad tooth. I wouldnt think it is to much to worry about, but I would take him to the vets for a check up.

Thank You Jules; I took him this morning and the vet says it could be a blocked saliva duct. At this point in time she's not sure but he has had an injection and been given drops and antibiotics and she will see him Monday. Hopefully this will clear it, if not they may be a possible operation.
But he is 14 years old so to anesthetising him is not the best idea, unless absolutely necessary!
Hope he is ok.........although I too would avoid an anasthetic unless absolutely necessary, my old boy had to have a tooth removed when he was 12, and they used the type of anasthetic they use for greyhounds, and although it took him longer to get it out of his system, he was fine. Good luck.
