Won't be on till later, got loads to do today, so will reply later. if anybody answers that is. :-)
cant wait to hear about the sheep ray. i was watching the starlings feeding two youngsters the other day in my mums garden, mum and dad were busy grabbing insects and having to run back to the babies, id put some suet pellets out and was glad to see the parents grabbing themselves a quick snack. mr woody was hogging the bird bath again, he sits right in the middle (its only a small one so he swamps it) the other week when id run out of seed he kept landing on the bird table near the living room window and staring into the house as if in protest, my mum found it quite unnerving being under the hard cold glaze of a grumpy pigeon.
Hi ray,
Nice to see you on here, how are you?.

We have a Greater Spotted Woodpecker coming in on our nut birdfeeder, have to watch it from the house, as the sightest movement, its off.
Aplogies, I almoast forgot, A Blackbird and the Starlings are pecking at my Carrot seedlings, my fault though, should have used a fleece.
Hi ray and all. Rather busy myself today but should be able to post more tomorrow. Two fabulous Bullfinches in our garden this morning, they are just such smart birds !
More tomorrow I'm sure. Bye for now !
Lucky you yogasun - we had a pair of bullfinches last year but haven't seen any this year, they are beautiful little birds.
Unfortunately someone stole two of my feeder poles and all my bird feeders a couple of weeks ago. I am gradually trying to replace them but the squirrel has destroed the new nutfeeder so I don't see the woodpecker or nuthatch at present. I can't afford to buy the more solid ones all at once but will replace them bit by bit. That means I just see the usual suspects at the moment - they are still beautiful. we have adult blackbirds and starlings feeding babies and lots of dunnocks in and out of the bushes.
Haven't heard anything of the buzzards lately but have seen them so once their young have fledged we will hear them again. However absolutely no sight or sound of a cuckoo which is most unusual.
bensmum how sad can some people get pinching your feeder poles etc. where my partner and i live its communal ground and mrmad has hung feeders up in a tree and they regually go walking, though luckily no ones taken the niger feeder. the kids also stamp all over his flower beds and beheaded my beautiful queen of the night tulips with their football, and there nothing we can do as i said it communal ground except tell them off but it goes in one ear and straight out the other.
Been out on the nature reserve this morning helping out and also watching the Marsh Harriers. we have a webcam on their nest now. Three chicks in the nest (but one is unlikely to survive :o( it's half the size of the others. It's just been a magic morning!!!

Wishing you all a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Hi all, good to see all your names. Hi Lonnie, hope all is well, will get round to mailing you real soon.

Yesterday was pretty tame, not much happening, then the squirrel that lives at the back of our cottage appeared in the middle of the field, the sheep weere all staing at him as he was looking around in the grass for something, then one of the sheep walked up behind him and nudged him from the back, he jumped so high and when he landed he carried on looking in the grass, the sheep then did it again, and again and again, the squirrel must have then got fed up with him, he ran round in cirles, went behind the sheep, junmeped up bit his bum and ran like mad with the sheep looking round to see what had happened it was just so funny to see, still smiling about it now, hope you all have great weekend, take care all and enjoy the natural world, please take time to look at this link, you will not be dis appointed. Ray

The webcam is mesiing about at times, but good reading anyway.

Sorry, should have said, thanks for all the posts, great reading them all.
Hi Ray,that sheep story is great...so funny. We have loads of blue tits, chaffinches and wagtails this year.I love to watch them all feeding. On the canal all the geese are hissing at anyone who comes near their babies. All the joggers are terrified! Yesterday...my funny story. The local ranger was in the newsagents and said you should go look on the village green...so I did...and there were 2 guinea fowl cackling away to each other and whenever someone moved they ran to get cover under a range rover! All the kids were fascinated.I've never seen or heard them before. The cat down the road was like a statue...I reckon it was terrified.Have a lovely weekend.
Good morning ray and all!

Went for beautiful walk with pup yesterday down to the beach. Sun was shining, lots of activity with the birds and various little creatures doing their own thing. Love it!!

Robins have decided to come back and try again after the demise of their only chick few week back. Bluetits are busy little critters and greenfinches are coming and going. Yellowbeak, the ageing blackbird has been in fine voice, singing away,

Its raining here at the mo, but i am quite pleased because the ground was getting rather hard for the birds to get the worms, grubs etc. They are having a fine feast now!!!

If it clears up later, i will go and turn the soil over for them. No doubt the robins will be shadowing me, as will my pup!!! (Not that pup eats worms - Lol - well - I don't think he does (!) - he just likes to supervise!!!)

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I love these chats and reading everyones nature news. :o)

oh ray that sheep story is so funny wish id seen that for myself. the osprey in the lake district are sitting on eggs, they caused a major headache when they came back as they decided to move their nest from where they have been for the past few years to the other side of the lake, so a new web cam had to be set up and the view points changed. ive not checked on their web site recently on how they are doing so fingers crossed everything is fine.
Hello lovely people on this site!
Rather damp in 'sunny' Devon this morning. More to report later when I've been out. Great reading under this topic - LoftyLottie, Marsh Harriers, brilliant !
Good morning everyone!

Have been up for a couple of hours and it is absolutely tipping it down here! I should not have mentioned in my earlier post that a 'bit' of rain would be welcomed!!!! Ho hum!

Have been sitting by my patio doors watching the garden and even the birdies have taken cover! As for pup - he stuck his nose out the back door and declined to go any further! And this is the pup who likes to go in the sea!!!Don't think we will be going walkies just yet a while!

Hope you all have an enjoyable bank holiday monday, looking forward to reading more news from you all. :o)

Hello alfieblue and everyone! It's tipping it down here and windy as well. There was a basking shark in our bay yesterday, I didn't see it but my son and many others did.

What sort of a pup have you got alfieblue and whereabouts in the country are you? Sorry if this is chatter but it's just an interested aside really!
Hi yogasun!

Wonderful to hear about the basking shark in the bay - whereabouts are you?

I live in Hampshire - New Forest and beach are about 5 mins away so its lovely doggie walking area.

Pup is a young cocker spaniel - full of beans and bounces around like tigger!!! He has just had his morning sing song - well actually every morning he likes to have a howl at his large squeaky bone, but I like to think he's singing!

Just had tickle tums with him lying flat on his back - looks like a sheepskin rug in that position! He has a beautiful coat and a very long tail and needs constant grooming!

Think the rain is easing now so am going off for walkies soon.

Love to chat, but here, not on chatterbank. Love to hear where every comes from so i can envisage the scene when you all post your lovely stories of nature.

:o)xx
Oh! yogasun - i apologise - i have just re-read the messages and i see you live in Devon. Must get the short term memory sorted!!! :o)

Hi alfieblue - I really must get on and do some household chores, no excuse as it's horrid weather !!

We live in East Devon with a sea view, moved from Surrey 16years ago. It's great where you live too with the New Forest and beach so close.
Cocker spaniels are so energetic aren't they? We like dogs but don't have one now, enjoy other people's !

Have a good day x :-))
