My dog appears to have lost one of her claws. Her paw, although sore, looks OK, but I'm just wondering if the claw will grow back. Does anyone know about these things? Thanks.

If the claw is completely gone, not just broken, it probably won't grow back. There is a quite a nasty (I think fungus based) thing that dogs can get that makes them lose claws so if any others look iffy of if it doesn't heal quickly, you might like to pop to the vet

Thanks woofgang. She definitely lost her claw through a mishap rather than a disease but I'll keep a check on it anyway. :-)
you are welcome...it must have been quite a mishap!

Well, she caught her paw jumping into the back of the car actually. Anyway, she's been to the vet today. Apparently, the claw may well grow back, but the condition is quite serious and, if left untreated, she could have lost her toe. As it is, she's had a big jab of antibiotics, and is on antibiotic pills twice a day for a week, and is wearing a very fetching lampshade to stop her licking at her paw all the time! She hasn't quite got to grips with it yet, and keeps bashing into things as she walks about! She's looking a bit sorry for herself at the moment, but I'm sure she knows it's for the best. :-)
That's good that you took her to the vet. But you'll have to persevere with her bashing into things until she gets used to her lampshade. You might feel sorry for her and take it off, but she'll never get used to it then. By the way - when she's finished with it, can I have it for a hat? :-)
Good advice there from jjf. Not sure about his dress sense, though.

jjf, I think she's gradually getting used to her lampshade, although she still comes to a grinding halt if she bumps into anything with it! She can't work out that she has to back up or move her head if she wants to continue - it's no good waiting for the sofa to move! Also, she is looking very stylish in the sock she wears on her paw to keep it clean when out in the garden!! She must be the most fashionable pooch around! As for the lampshade - sure you can have it, if dog-slobber and fur are your style!! :-)
