lol u disgrace of a man
nope - they frighten my dogs, and if they grab another dog their jaw locks and they will not let go..............and.........they have trouble breathing due to the way they have been bred. Sorry redhead, I have opened a can of worms, but you did ask!
Just looking around at amount of 'dog missing' posters on trees etc, they seem to be the most common dog to run off or for some other reason go missing.
Question Author
they stolen a lot , and also dumped how bad is thatim not talking about put bulls people they are the ones that give staffs a bad name , check out any dog book and staffs are family dogs .
family dogs, and so are labradors......according to the books - but one ripped a ladies face off in France last year. Any dog can turn if provoked, and in my experience, although staffies are generally good with people, they are aggressive towards other dogs, and once they get a grip they do not loose. The problem with staffies is that men have them as a status symbol, like rotties, and provoke them to be aggressive.
I love them also. They have great personalities. In my experience though, it does take a lot more effort to train them and have them as a pet than for many other types of dogs. Of course, the best dogs in the world are mutts!
Question Author
they are brilliant dogs if not a bit boistrous and i agree they do take a lot of training but i think they are well worth it !!
I grew up with a staffy and have loads of pictures of both of us sitting in my pram. From an early age (I'm talking months old) I was taught not to poke or prod the dog, pinch it, shout at it etc. and I think that is half the battle. Generally speaking neither dogs nor children are trained properly and whereas humans can do all of the above-mentioned plus use sticks, electric collars and so on, the poor dog can only bark or use it's teeth to show fear or displeasure.
Humans are all stressed out these days because of noise, traffic and over-crowding and I think the same goes for animals, hence the higher incidence of dog maulings.
I love staffies!
I love them which is why I have two. Redhead you should check out

tut tut... pmjblue... so ignorant about the breed
Question Author
thank u tiger and happy , i will check out the site cheers , you are right soooo many people get them mixed up with pit bulls the amount of people that tell me my dog is dangerous - erm hello its a staff !!!! lovely dogs
happy face - my old neighbour has one, and there are another five that live locally which I regularly see when out walking..........and everyone of them would kill my dogs given half the chance, a fact not ignorance. All are fine with people and children, but any sign of another dog and they all go ballistic. In fact two of them have owners that struggle to handle them when they see another dog, so I keep well away. My son would love one, but he has chosen to rescue a mutt from the pound instead. Staffies are very popular in the Midlands where I live, and the majority of men do have them as a status symbol around here (which is why my son wants one no doubt!!)
Pmjblue - I appreciate that SOME staffies are as you described but don't tar all with the same brush. Not all Staffies have breathing probs, in fact I have never come across one and usually it's due to being overweight as the tissue in the back of their throat gets enlarged. But being overweight is never the dogs fault.
Again all dogs can be taught to be vicious and I see several border collies in my park which does not like other dogs or bitches.
When I take my two out which are as placid as anything I always experience Labs and Goldens coming over to lord it over my two. But I appreciate that all dogs are different even in the same breed and I wish people would stop thinking because one or two behave as they do, they all do.
Remember, humans are the culprits here, they are the ones moulding their dogs into what they want them to be. With good training any dog is a loveable dog. Owners need to take responsibility for their dogs and give them adequate training.
pmj blue-very ignorant about the breed, getting the feeling you dont like them!I have a staffy, little girl, she is now 6mths old who lives with my 1 year old jack russell and my 7 year old persian cat, so obviously they not all the same as she would have eaten her friends by now!!never had any problems walking with her on or off the lead, and isnt really interested in other dogs, only people for a fuss!so please dont tar them all with the same brush!
