Are you allowed to camp on Dartmoor? Can you light fires and cook the old school way?

Thanks

I only camped there when I was in the forces, and as there are a lot of unexploded ordnance around, you'd have to be extra careful where you go, its quite a dangerous place, the bogs can pull you in, so you'd need to take ropes with you, and never go off by yourselves, if you have cellphones, which we didn't in my day, take them with you.

But all that apart, its a beautiful place, You don't need permission, at least, you didn't forty years ago, but you will need maps showing where the Army training sites are, although there will be fences and notices, and yes, you can light fires, assuming you know what your doing, and cook whichever way you choose.

Enjoy.
As Lonnie says Dartmoor is stunning, but you do have to follow the rules laid down by Dartmoor National Park, and as you would expect they are quite strict and must be adhered to.

This link gives you their website with all the information you will need including lighting fires and camping.
