I don't know the area you live in so I can't answer that bit, try looking in your local phone book under riding stables. The costs varies a lot from one place to the other, depends how many facilities the riding school has, some have indoor and outdorr arenas. They are about 16 an hour where I live and a basic riding school is about 9.50 an hour. You can certainly have a trial lesson to see if you like it.
Agree with horselady, But I would book yourself a lesson at a good riding school to see if you like it, as a bad school can put you off. You can certainly have one lesson to see if you like it. Another good place to look is in tack shops and equestrian suppliers as they often have notice's up recommending schools.

Where I live you would expect to pay 20 to 25 for an hours lesson.

I think if your looking to ride a horse, you may be a bit on the batty side, however if you insist i know where there is a stable for shire horses.
