Ive been around dogs all my life and heard this on occasions, some referring to the colour of a dogs coat and sometimes referring to the colour of its eyes, its my opinion that its nonsense, the colour pigment has little or nothing to do with the dogs brain or thought processes.
I heard few days ago that black and tan dogs are more sucseptible(know thats spelt wrong)to diseases like parvo, whys that,is that rubbish too?
I have heard that red cocker spaniels are more likely to get rage syndrome.

I have often found that red dogs (collies mainly) are harder to train, I wonder if it is linked to people with red hair are supposed to have a temper?

Sometimes if you follow a certain breed, say labradors then you might find that more 'working' people breed black ones and therefore the black ones are keener to learn and work, because certain lines are more developed that way.

Red is the only colour I have heard of directly linked to temperament.

Other colours may appear to be because of the way the breeders have developed their 'lines', but this is not genetically linked.
my partner and i, and her sister and hubby both keep labs .among people who have labs its a commonly held belief that golden and blacks have a much better, gentler nature than chocolates, which have a repuation for being a bit snappy.
dont ask me why though.
I grew up with Irish red setters and neither had a bad temperament or was hard to train.

In general if the owners are responsible and invest time any dog will be a delight to live with and train regardless of colour and most times also breed
When I got my rescue dog at Battersea, he became a bit of a talking point on our daily walks and I got lots of interesting and useful tips and information from other dog owners. Talking about temperament, one man said that black dogs often get into fights as other dogs find it hard to read their expressions. I don't know how true it is, as I've had two golden retrievers who always started the fights, and my new little black mongrel is the friendliest dog alive! Having said that, a couple of dogs have started a tussle with him.
Also, whenever I take a photo of him, it is very hard to make out his features in the picture.
Don't know about dogs, but chestnut (red) horses are definatly more firey, but also seem quite inteligent. So the red thing might be true
