I've tried a couple of on-line dictionaries with no success - but I have found lots of sites offering NUMNAHs for sale (just type 'numnah' into Google); there may be a derivation on page ??, but I only skimmed the first few.


Can only suggest you find a decent, large dictionary in the library and look it up there.

I would have thought it was maybe of Indian origin.
Found it! It is Mid 19th Century Urdu 'Namda' from the Persian 'namad' - felt or carpet. Now we know!
