I don't know if it's normal or not but a lot of dogs do it.

Perhaps it's a sexual orientation problem!

i once had a alsation dog that did this all his life, but he definatly liked the ladies.
Probably just a typical lazy male thing, haha only joking but our little dog sometimes does that,he may stop as he gets older,
it has been normal for my dog Bingo for the last eleven years and so i guess it is all relative. he had a hernia when he was born and i think this was the prob at the time and he just got used to it. i'll ask him, hang on............he says 'mind your business and get off the couch i want to stretch.'
My male springer rarely ***** his leg....he always has a "girlie wee"....we call him a big poof when he does !!!
he might grow out of i, my dog didnt start cocking his leg until he was about 1 year old

You all are so funny....lifting the leg is a mostly a "learned" behavior, when males become mature they start to notice this kind of thing, they also find the smell of others "up" on surfaces, so hormones drive them, and, if they don't balance correctly, or have difficulty, this will delay the behavior. Some never figure it out others start by the time they're 5 months old, (when they get the first EXTRA shot of male testosterone). Females can try to do this sometimes also, by lifting one leg up slightly while urinating. Be glad the behavior hasn't started, neutering them will help with the hormones driving them, but if they start the habit, it is hard to break, it can be done but just harder. Hope this helps explain..~/:\~

Of course! He's only 10months old. If he's castrated, he may never do it. Or he could do a mixture of both. What does it matter in anyway?!
it is normal behaviour for male puppies, especially springers
FYI: castration does not determine when/if they lift the leg or not. It has nothing to do with it..

Our Springer took eighteen months to **** his leg.We were so pleased we telephoned all our family and friends to tell them the good news. They all thought we had lost the plot!

Our Springer sleeps on his back, front paws folded and back legs akimbo ? We were told most Springers do.

Absolutely nothing about a Springer's behaviour would surprise us...daft isn't the word ! (but they are very, very GORGEOUS)

I have a little bitch who lifts both back legs (doing a handstand) to wee up a tree or bush. Sometime she can reach really high. Her daughter only lifts one leg. Trouble is her mum will wee all over her if she isn't quick enough.
All "Dogs" crouch to pee. Lifting their leg comes naturally to them as they get older. Our Flat Coat lifted his leg for the first time last week but has squatted since then ( he'll be one year old at the end of the month), but there's nothing to worry about. The only consolation is, once he stops squatting, the grass might start growing again!!!
