I'm concerned that my cat is getting too clingy and wondered what I can do to deter this behaviour. He is very attached to me and tends to follow me a bit but when I'm there he's just generally well behaved and calm. When I'm not there he is starting to act like a stroppy teenager - stomping round the house and shouting at the top of his voice in an irrate manner. My housemate who is great with him, feeds him and who he likes too, is beginning to get a little p***ed off at this! As soon as I come in he stops this behaviour and goes back to his normal self. If there anything we can do to stop him acting like this? Thanks.

cant see why you are complaining. My cat is the same and I would rather have her like that than some cat that never comes home come, rips up the furniture and pees and poss everywhere.

Its good to have a loving cat. Why would you prefer a unloving selfish one????????????

My cat is very disruptive when I'm not around....but I live alone, so on the rare ocassion that he has to spend a day on his own, he shows his frustration by climbing the walls. Perhaps your housemate needs to learn how to be more assertive with your cat and let him know that stomping around the house is inacceptable behaviour. One tastic might be to leave an item of your own clothing around when you're not there, so he can smell you. Then he might not feel the need to shout at the top of his voice!

spaced I wasn't complaining. I love the fact that my cat is very affectionate and loving. What worries me is that he is getting a bit too clingy and beginning to be disruptive when I'm not there - there are times when I have to go away and don't want him causing problems for my housemate when I'm not there. I was simply asking if anyone knew of a way I could stop him from acting up when I'm not there.

kovac thanks for the sensible advice. There are always plenty of my things lying around and he always has access to my bedroom where he can go on the bed (that's where he sleeps anyway). My housemate is pretty assertive with him and hopefully he will learn that shouting and being a nuisance isn't going to get him anywhere!
