I have had to capture two within the last two days. Why am I so frightened of them? I feel as if they might run towards me and then run up my body and go for the throat.

What and tickle you to death?
If you are in Oz - the huntsmen are on the roam because they are mating at the moment :-(

If you are in the uk - you need to worry more in September onwards

This is from an anachraphobe

Arachnophobes should not look at this link (nor should anyone else who is freaked out by big spiders)

I know it’s irrational (and i like to consider myself pretty rational) but I still react irrationally when I encounter one - especially the huge house spiders we get in autumn

I’m not sure how I cope when I’m in Australia :-(
We've had big so and sos every night for about a week. It's like September.

And before anyone tells me they are more scared of me than I am of them, I have yet to see a spider phone her husband from the kitchen and stammer "there's a f***** monster in the fridge" (it was in the hinge).
I don't mind the odd hairy-legged house guest. Keeps the numbers of pesky flies down on hot days and the bigger the spider, the more flies they can eat. I only remove their webs when they begin to gather dust as i take that as a sign the webs have been vacated :-)
Barmaid, British spiders don't curse, just the Aussie ones :-))
It’s worrying because usually the big ones are in September onwards

The Aussie spiders are big f*****

Not all fatal but some are
ah, they're almost human

I love spiders, some of them are so pretty and most of our spiders are completely harmless to us. I think the moral of the tale is, if you don't like spiders don't move to Australia ( where the smaller ones are deadly), or anywhere else where spiders lurk in corners.
i get panic attacks when i see spiders, not the teeny one, but those on here, not my thing at all.
I am not frightened of spiders but now very wary of the bigger ones. A few years ago I had two small holes on my lower leg that looked very much like a snake bite. It was red and very itchy and I went to the GP who nonchantly informed me it was probably a spider bite, especially as I sleep with my lower limbs out of the duvet. This was in the UK. OH and Son are manic about them and won't go in a room if one is there.
I'm not frightened of them but the thought of inadvertently standing on one in my bare feet turns my stomach.
barry -not as much as standing on a slug in your bare feet....Yeuck!
I would never kill a spider, but I'll admit those big beggars crawling around near the ceiling give me the shivers ! Once there were two crawling along coming towards each other and I wondered what they would do when they reached each other, but they just crawled over the other one and went merrily on their way ! As long as they stay up near the ceiling, I can just about live with that ..
I can think of worse things to stand on in bare feet. Anyone owned a pup?
APG - I've done that ! I remember lifting my foot up and it hung there, squelched ! Still gives me the shivers ..
no, not owned a puppy, have trodden on lego and toy cars trying to navigate my way across the room when my nephews were little.
