A hedgehog with its own Instagram account...it's kept as a pet in the US. Probably legal...as it is here. But why oh why is it out in daylight?

Because some nasty person wants to make use of an animal. Its not legal to keep English hedgehogs as pets in the Uk

I know, but apparently African Pygmy hedgehogs are allowed. I wonder why?
With what Boaty feeds his equivalent of the Balders' array, I'm not surprised that they sleep the day and come out at night. I wonder if the Kent crew do that - gin through the night and then plenty of zzzzs after breakfast>
I’m not happy about that either but I do remember that when we visited Tiggywinkles regularly that their hedgehogs used to be about in the daytime (bit pointless visiting otherwise).
I`ve seen hedgehogs out in the daylight. It's not that unusual.
237SJ, Any native hedgehog out in the day is in trouble and you’re advised to get attention for it.

I suppose if the hedgehogs are out because they want to...(yeh, yeh, I know animals cannot make choices as we do, but you know what I mean) then that's different than some idiot human dragging them out to play dress up.

I wonder if these African hedgies are different in their habits.
I`ve seen lots of hedgehogs with their babies trundling across the fields in daylight in my youth. I`m more concerned that people in America consider them as pets
We are talking about a country where 7% of the adult population think chocolate milk comes from brown cows :)

And a country that allows cats to be de-clawed.
Probably suffering from insomnia.
And a country where dogs were de barked (or they did when my cousin lived there) I don`t want to *** off Americans though. No country is perfect.

^^^^I can do it! ;))
I saw a hedgehog out in broad daylight many years ago and promptly took it to a vet, as I'd heard they shouldn't be out and about in daylight. They gave it a good check over and kept it in for several hours to make sure it was alright and then gave it back to me. I released it where I had found it and hope it lived fdor a very long time.
