This time last night the sky was a cloudless light orange and filled with 100s of swallows as I looked out. Never seen so many, it was more like a cloud of gnats. The sky tonight is equally stunning but not a single one. I think they were gathering and off they've gone. Winter on the way.

I thought the same.
Yesterday there were dozens on the telegraph wires along the lane. This morning there were none.
That’s sad Prudie. I haven’t seen any this year. Glad to know they’re still coming here.
Reported sightings of swallows at Spurn Point:

So it definitely looks like they've all gone.
I haven't seen one swallow this year and have only seen five swifts.

All gone now.

Actually by my house I hadn't seen any swallows all summer until about 3 weeks ago. We have had a huge number of housemartins though and they went a couple of weeks ago.
I haven't seen them gathering or any at all for a couple of months now, for that matter.
It must have been an awsome sight to see!
Have seen quite a few today, don’t know how long they’ll be here for though.
Housemartins and swifts gone too, I always feel a little sad when they leave, but then there are redwings, fieldfares and all the winter migrants. I hope its rubbish feeding in Siberia I want a waxwing winter
