I have an x battery hen, she started to moult in late august, the new feathers that have come through are still coiled in the sleaves that come down first, any ideas of what to do? Could it be a deficiency in something, she is fed on layers pellets, corn, scraps, there is no red mite in cages, and no signs of lice, any help will be good, thanks jo

Not a chicken expert but I spray my parrot with warm water mixed with aloe vera, this softens the pins and makes them easier for the bird to scratch or rub them off. Lisa x

And after spraying them ↑as above↑, and they still will not unsheathe, a light brushing with a soft toothbrush will help.

Thanks both of you, I will try the aloe vera and spray, I got in touch with the hen society, they have also suggested re worming, cod liver oil, change to breeders pellets, vitamins, plus garlic and dog food for extra protein, I am going to try the aloe vera now, x
