Kitten Likes Wet Things

Our 4 month old kitten loves wet things; it started when he fetched a sponge from the kitchen and ripped it to shreds so we started keeping the sponge in the cupboard, then he managed to get a used teabag which hadn't been put in the bin and pull that to bits.

He just bought a wet j-cloth in through the living room so I took that off him and put it in the cupboard then I heard him on the kitchen side again and went to find him dragging a rinsed out paint roller (which was draining on the drainging board) across the worktop.

He has water in a bowl all the time which we change regularly as he seems to prefer fresh water (know some cats don't) and has wet food twice a day and dry food to have as and when he wants it.

Is there any reason for this obsession?

he is a kitten - they don't need a reason!
You just have to accept they are weird where water is conserned , my cats used to drink puddle and pool water in preference to fresh. And one of them was constantly head down in the ground floor loo when it had a new loo bloo block in it.

He is definitely a weird one; loves water in ways mentioned but hates being sprayed! As long as it's not an indication of something health wise I don't mind too much!
He's a kitten, he's experimenting. Give him his own wet thing he can play with but keep safe - a damp flannel ought to do the trick.
My cat likes to snap at water running from the tap - and they never drink from bowls in the kitchen, they drink out of buckets and shovels in the garden.
bednobs's answer will answer many of your questions for the first year or so. Then it will change to 'he is a cat - cat's do what they want'.

It's the law of the jungle/livingroom.

I've grown up with having cats as pets so always knew they do as they please but this was a new one! Tried the wet flannel and being a typical cat he didn't take the slight bit of notice and went off to get the paint roller again!
