I have a spare bit of hose pipe that I dont use very often, I put it on the tap and it flowed back as though it was blocked, I reconnected the hozelock nozzle, and with an almighty bang, what can only be described as rose leaves rolled up with the top and bottom sealed, there was quite alot of say cocoon/ sealed pods, they looked like cigars, about 1/2 inch long, there is what can only be described as egg yolk in the middle and some kind of lavae/maggot in the middle, does anyone know what it could be, I am just glad they did not explode in my face,
Thanks
Jo

At a guess, I'd say they were the eggs of the leafcutter bee

Thank you, I feel real bad now, I did not know they were in there, it was one hell of a lot of leaves, they were all cocooned inrose leaves, sadly they all died, it was an amazing construction, they were at lavae stage, and looked just like maggots, I feel so guilty. Murderer!!!!!! I have never seen that before,
oh no! at least you couldn't possibly have known about it.
Josaphine, I know how you feel. Yesterday I stood at the backdoor and flung out a bowl full of washing up water on to the little side garden. As I flung it, I saw the bee. The water hit it with full force. I stood and watched for a few minutes but it didn't recover. I felt terrible.
Tilly, I didn't see your answer before I started mine. I guess we where thinking along the same lines at around the same time "Great minds think alike" !!.

Josaphine, A hungry bird probably appreciated the grubs ;-)
You could always provide the bees with some lengths of sawn off garden cane, lodged somewhere out of the way, and with any luck they will take up the offer

All the best - Chip.

My7 baby hedgehogs would have loved them also, I just did not know what they were, nature is amazing, I new they were rose leaves, but did not know how they got to the rose bushes 30 feet away then put them in the hose pipe, I had visions of an insect saying o.m.g. I am off again back tomorrow with half a leaf, never thought it could fly, poor sods
