My dog rolled in something which was absolutely vile - not anything dead, I think, but it had a really strong, pungent throat-gagging ammonia pong. I've never smelt anything like it before, thank goodness. Do you think it might have been fox poo? UGGH!

I believe that's exactly it annemollie.
Foxes do make an almighty stench when they are marking territory or leaving messages. It lasts for ages too.
Oh Yes.
It might be fox scent. There`s a fox that trots up my garden path and marks the shrub by the front door. I come home and it absolutely stinks - especially when it then rains on it.
Probably .It's vile .
Old Shaney loved it and would roll in it at any opportunity :)

She had the stuff on her neck and collar. It took ages to get off, and then I washed her in a Dettol solution. The family all scarpered and left me to it.
strong ammonia pong sounds more like tomcat or fox wee than poo.
its times like those when you find out who your friends are.
knew a bloke who trod in some poo then got into his car, he had to pay the valet man extra to get rid of the smell.
Yes, my old dog used to love rolling in it. Disgusting.

Woof -it was definitely doo!! If that's what is used for drag hunts, then I salute the person who drags it.

Poo! Or doo.
My dog used to do that, even when he had just had a bath! What a pong! Even a fox in the area you can smell before you see it.
our dog sleeps outside when he rolls in poo! cant stand it its horrible and then he goes and rubs it on the car carpets!!
Rub tomato sauce into it before bathing - don't know why but it works!
