I have 1 cat and two kittens (who are just a year old now) and we have had some trouble...

I have a neighbours cat (from about 10 houses away) that has come in TWICE in last three days.. once at 5am and attacked our older cat (lots of noise... fur everywhere and poor Harvey wet himself) then the bastard cat came back again at 4am this morning.

I keep our cats in each night.. and block the cat flap (tunnel) with cushions to stop them getting out...

What can I do to stop this other cat getting in? He is sooo aggressive.
I am going to visit the owners tomorrow to see if the cat is neuteured...
I know he attacks another neighbbours cat too in their own home.

Can you get one of those cat flaps that only opens with a collar device?

It sounds like the neighbour's cat is trying to assert dominance over all females in the area by eliminating nearby males, I would imagine he hasn't been neutered yet.
get a locking cat flap, if you want to keep yours in and others out
two bricks and a G clamp will do it......

I have a locking flap.. but the kittens are like Houdini!!!! I stuff TWO cushions into the tunnel and then put both kitchen bins infront of it and they STILL got out!
They dont wear collars so wouldnt take to a magnetic flap now I dont think!
Until now - Harvey has been the one on SENTRY duty guarding the cat flap.. but I worry the male would kill one of the kittens.. they arent fully grown yet

I know it sounds cruel... but if I was to trap it... in a cage.. then squirt it with water to scare it - do you think that might stop it?
I obviosuly dont want to hurt it... but its only a matter of time before one of mine ends up at the vets!

At night, don't let the cats have access to the room with the cat flap?
We have a cardboard cover over our locked cat flap at night but this is mainly so our cat doesn't sit staring outside all night at what he's missing. If I was worried about other cats getting in despite it being locked then I would just shut the kitchen door so it couldn't get in to the flat.

And yes, what you're suggesting would be cruel. Squirt it with water if you see it in your garden by all means but of course you don't imprison and then spray a cat, it's not going to understand!

As for the cat attacking... well they do that. My cat is regularly chased and ganged up on by all the local cats and my stance is he needs to grow a pair or learn to run fast... thus far he's a damn fast runner! ;0)

I think shutting the kittens in one room at night is probably the way forward for you at the moment.
>>>Pour some milk into a bowl and top it up with some white spirit, let Horrible cat drink it and no more pussy cat problems !<<

I dont imagine even the stupidest cat falling for that trick!!

What a nasty thing to suggest.
put a dish of dettol or dilute jeyes fluid outside the cat flap, not for the cat to drink but as a deterrent.

trapping it and spraying it with water was the alternative to what my husband wants to do with it!!!
We are both knackered from being woken up!!
Was joking about above, I love cats and have four myself.

Sorry for offending anyone !

I'm going to see if I can speak to the owners tomorrow - who i know are lovely people and see if they can keep it in at night for a few nights...
See if it makes a difference.
Dont see why my cats should live terrified to go out and scared of any noises in their own house - thats without the spraying that would start if they smell the cat in the kitchen.
I'm going to move their food bowls to another floor in the house too... as it might be coming in for their food... (actually I would imagine that is more the case than coming in for a fight...)
Question Author
jeyes fluid? isnt that poisonous to cats?
I dont want to kill it!!! (scare the bloody thing yes... but not actually harm it!)
I expect it is neutered.. but if not - then I could ask the owners to get that sorted.. however I dont think they are the kind of people to have unneutered pets.. It must just be a bloody ballsy cat!!
Nosha, that may help lol ;)
seriously that's what I would start with - they may be unaware what havoc Thomas is causing out there - just present the facts and ask them to contact their neighbours as well for further "evidence."

Good luck.
Report owner to rspca and cat protection society for cruelty.
While I see what you're saying, I don't see why your neighbours cat shouldn't be allowed to go outside either just because your cats are scared when you could just lock your cat flap and shut the kittens in a room overnight since they don't go out at night anyway.
