Bitch missed a season

My 18 month Border terrier bitch has missed a season. She was due in October, having had 2 seasons 6 months apart previously. There's absolutely NO WAY she is pregnant, and is very fit and healthy, so I wondered if it was common for a bitch to just skip a season?

She could have had a silent season and you missed it, but as she is only a month over due I wouldnt worry unduly yet. Not all bitches are regular, and a friend of mine had a bitch who only ever had one season in her life. If you are worried, you could get her tested for hypothyroidism.
As jules says, nothing unusual and very few bitches come in on the dot of 6 months.
Mine often go eight or nine months and my greyhound bitches used to be yearly. Thank your lucky stars she is not one who comes in every three or four months!

Ahhh...I see, thanks! I knew she was due so was waiting for signs, but when nothing happened I began to worry as she had been regular with her previous two seasons. I'll mention it to the vet next time, but Im happier now I know there's no immediate cause for concern.
Only thing to worry about would be if she got a discharge when she was not due in season, as this could be a sign of pyometra, which can be fatal if untreated. If you see a discharge of any sort and she is looking miserable or not her usual self then get her checked.
