My cat keeps scratching the front door when he wants to be let in. The door is getting ruined and its wooden which is worse.

I'm not allowed a cat flap as I rent the property and I could never keep him in as its not fair and hes an outdoor cat. Is there anyway to stop him doing it at all?

I cant see when he wants to come in as the door has no glass, which is why hes taken to scratching it. The neighbours cat even tried it a couple of times.
Thanks for any help

A cat flap would be the obvious choice but unfortunately you can't have it. Your cat has learnt that by scratching the front door, you respond and let him in, this learned behaviour will be difficult to undo. I would probably resign myself to the fact that this is the arrangement and replace the door when you move out. So what, it looks ugly but at least you know your cat is happy!
