My cat is adorable, the majority of the time, but during the summer she is a nightmare. She gets up about 4am every morning wanting to be fed and then wanting to go up, I am a very light sleeper and just cant get back to sleep after I have got up to let her out. She bites my toes and knocks things off surfaces to wake us up! I read on a website, that we should try and get her to be as active as possible during the day, buy her new toys, keep her active, we have done all this but it isnt helping. We keep the small kitchen window open so she can go out when she wants, but the other morning at 3am she bought in a live mouse which we had to sort out, and this morning at 5am she was fighting with another cat which she had brought in!!! Help!!! Has anyone got any suggestions. We cant lock her out of the bedroom because she meows so loudly and rips up the carpet!!!

Any suggestions?!!?

Hi, we had similar problems with ours now we just put him out overnight....the only problem we have now is the neighbours letting him back into the communal hall...good luck
I'm sorry - I don't have any suggestions, only 2 cats of my own who do exactly the same thing. I get pawed at and yelled at from about 4am. Many of the cat owners on here have the same problem. I can't shut mine out either as they yell so loudly and ,like yours ,shred the carpet if the door is shut. For some reason mine have been worse this year than in other years. If anyone has a magic remedy I would be very interested!

Its strange, cos I was saying to my partner (who I have been with for a year) that she has neve been this bad! Something different this year! Dont know why!
I have two furry masters who wake me up too . They can be quite creative in finding ways in which to waken me.

Princess Merlin sometimes runs up and down the bed going "wheeeeeeeee wheeeeeeeeeee"

Frankie has started combing my hair with his claws until I wake up.

Luckily I don't work so the loss of sleep isn't a major problem.

Good luck.
what about leaving down a bowl of dry food the night before? The only problem with this is that I suspect I am feeding all the neighbourhood cats as well as my own.
I suggest that you get a time delay feeder that opens automatically to allow her access to food at around 3.30am.
To prevent damage to doors & carpets when shutting the little darling out, you need a cardboard box on a string - the string goes through the bottom edge about halfway along, then put the box on the outside of the door, pass the string under the door to the inside & secure to the handle after pulling it so as the box rests snugly against the outside of the door. Kitty gets to shred a box but not the carpet.
My cats used to be the same at night, always wanting to be in or then out again but luckily I have a flat kitchen roof underneath the bedroom window.
The cats come in and out of the bedroom window, over the kitchen roof, a short jump onto the garden shed and they are away.
They get back in this way unfortunately, even my little Bengal cross can manage to bring in a small live bunny, or mouse for me to play with.
The other night she had a half grown rat which she whizzed by my bed and downstairs. Took us 3 days to get the blighter out from under the kitchen cupboards.
I've got used to watching my step at the bottom of the stairs as there is frequently half a mouse or rabbit lieing on the carpet.
I don't know why I keep cats really, I must be a masochist.
