My dog has started chasing my bird

my dog is 5 1/2 and about 2 1/2 years ago i took on my nans quaker parakeet he never bothered with it but about 8 months since he started to try and catch him when he was flyin and getting really excited and crying and whining any help will be greatfully received

The dog may be starting to get jealous. Do you still spend quality time with it? If your dog doesn't respond to vocal commands you need to tie it up on a short lead in the same room. Also talk to the dog when you talk/play with the quaker so it feels as part of the family. It won't take long before it will associate trying to catch the bird with being tied up on a short lead for a while.
