Our 2 Burmese cats (they are sisters) both go mad for licking the outside of a cup of tea - obviously we stop them in case they burn their tongues. Clio also likes to lick hot radiators. I have had cats all my life and have never seen this before - does anyone know why they do it?!!

Cheers

Sorry I don't have an answer but that is very strange behaviour even for a cat and they can have some weird habits! But if they are happy and healthy then they probably won't be doing themselves too much harm. Presumably they would stop if they felt it burn but have you noticed if their pain threshold is high in other things? There is a neurological condition in humans where they have no sense of pain and I don't know if animals can have the same thing. But knowing cats it's probably just a quirky habit !
