I have a 7yr old black cat who, from a kitten, has always been a bit nervous of people. She has recently started pulling her fur out from the inside of her back legs making her quite bald. There is no rash or redness of any kind suggesting irritation and she seems otherwise ok, eating well etc. Can anybody suggest anything I can do?

I had a cat that did exactly the same thing - turns out there was an unneutered Tom cat marking the territory around the house.

Keep your cat well groomed, well watered and fed and increase the amount of attention she is getting from you.

And search around to see if there is another cat on the prowl for starters - possibly even a dog.

It's most unlikely to be a people related problem.

Thanks scotchollie. My neighbour has 4 toms so that's a possibility! Because of her nervousness we do treat her differently to her sister (a tabby with attitude) in giving her lots of extra affection.
Sounds like your answer's next door - new tom perhaps?

Actually they're not new but who knows what's happening out there in the cat world!
