does anyone know why the mother ate her new born baby rabbits?

There's several different theories as to why does occasionally eat their babies. The problem is that rabbits do not have the same motherly instinct as dogs or cats who will protect their young. Some does will simply neglect their young and let them die. Some think it's because the doe is under stress, and some think, especially with a doe having her first litter, that she simply doesn't know what's going on and eats them out of immaturity. All the raisers do advise that if it continues through another litter or so, it's useless to breed her again and the Welsh Rarebit will be her final destination...
Because baby bunnies are the snack you CAN eat between meals without spoiling your appetite.

Did You touch them??
Mothers don't like foreign scents on their newborn babies.
Also sometimes there's something wrong with them and the mother just eats them for nourishment
