Opened my flat door and he flew in... I have put notices up and facebooked, I haven't got a Twitter account. He has good and water and my lounge to fly around in but he won't shut up!

Canaries are like that. Very noisy.
I think other birds will kill him if you let him out so please keep him. Perhaps his not shutting up is the reason he was outside Rowan LOL. x

I think he is cute but I might have to find a cage from somewhere....I think it is still quite young

I grew up with canaries their singing is one of the most beautiful sounds ever
Birds in cages get a big NO from me I'm afraid.
Same here ,MartinMillar. During and just after the war a lot of people had canaries and budgies. lovely little birds.

Canaries usually have box like cage with a wire front. Maybe if he decides to stay around you could put a cardboard box or an old drawer on its side with his food in ,just to help him settle .
How many flats are in your building? Could you not deliver a handwritten note to each? Or leave a sign in a prominent place?
I would email the local newspaper and ask them to print something. You might put notes in local shop windows too.

All done, cage improvised I removed the top shelves from a book case fitted a wire mesh front, sand sheets, grit, seed, water and cuttlebone, selection of perches.... not ringed, he seems quite happy....
