I have treated my dog with Frontline 2 weeks ago but today I found a flea on him. Can I use another one on him or do I have to wait?

Does it say anything about that on the box / packet of Frontline, jubieanna.

I've thrown it away Tony because I'd used them all. I'll google it.
Fleas are becoming immune to Frontline. I have found this with my mum`s cat and the vet confirmed it. We have switched the cat to Advocate and there is a version for dogs. It might be worth a try.
I wouldn't use it at all. Frontline is known to be rather ineffective in recent years. I use Advantage...buy on line and its cheaper than frontline. Oh...and it really works.
As for the frontline...I'd wait.
Once a month. Are you using enough when you dose him, though? I use Stronghold, and there are different doses for different weights of animal.
I'd check the packaging but I'm afraid lots of people just don't find Frontline effective anymore, the fleas have become immune. That's why it's so freely available now. If you really want to get rid of fleas splash out at the vets .
PS we didn't get on with Advantage, we found it too runny and it made the cats' eyes water.
I've been rattling on about how useless FL is on here for years. Get Advantage or Stronghold from your vet. And you'll need to bomb your house with RIP as your dog's bedding, your soft furnishings, carpets etc will be infested with flea eggs etc.. FL should be banned IMO.
My dog was physically sick when I treated him for fleas then sprayed his bedding and the carpets as advised by the vet at the time. I would say use with caution, this stuff is toxic. Wash and hoover the bedding regularly instead. The flea you saw may well not survive on him, give it time.

Thank you all for all the info. I didn't realise fleas were becoming immune to Frontline. We keep a close eye on the flea situation and hoover his bed daily (he loves that game lol)
I will research the ones mentioned and try one of those instead.

many thanks
A few points:
1. As the nurse at my local vet's surgery said to me the other day "If you can invent something which creates a force field around pets to keep fleas off them you'll make a fortune". Her point was that ALL flea treatments only kill fleas that have landed on (and probably already feasted on) an animal. They DON'T prevent fleas which are in your carpets (or just in the grass outside) from jumping onto a cat or dog. So unless your carpet and furnishings are 100% clear of fleas (AND your garden and wherever you walk your dog are too!) you should always expect to see a few fleas on any animal treated with Frontline (or with anything else) around this time of year.

2. Like you, I wanted to give a repeat dose of flea treatment rather earlier than it said on the packaging but, because of the risk of an overdose, the nurse wouldn't even sanction applying it a single day early (which is actually exactly what I'd expected her to say).

3. If you're using Frontline, an Asda pharmacist recently told me that Ectoline (which Asda sells cheaper than Frontline) is exactly the same product as Frontline but simply with a different brand name, so you could save yourself some money at Asda.

Great thanks chris. I'm all for saving few pennies :-)

I have checked him and can't see any more on him or any 'flea bits' so hopefully it is just a rogue flea I found.
Buenchico - regarding the fleas in the carpet. I was told by the vet that if a flea jumps onto the animal and bites into it (which it will) it will die because the drug will remain active on the animal for about 4 weeks which is why you should be meticulous about re-treating within the required time limits. Therefore, if there are fleas in the carpet, they will not breed on the animal.
what about the fleas that bite humans?
237SJ:
That's exactly as I understand it. My point was that there will still be a flea on the animal (even that flea can't breed), leading some owners into believing that the treatment isn't working (when it still is).
They bite humans but they don`t and can`t live on humans.
We give our hounds garlic granules in their food most days and we haven't seen a single flea in years!
Shaney never had fleas either .I used to give him garlic tablets and used Denes garlic spray .
You're confusing fleas with vampires, Ratter ;-)
