Cats Getting Out Of Windows

Does anyone know of anything we can put in kitchen windows when we open them to stop cats getting out ? My husband has built a mesh "door" we hang on the open front door, but it seems awkward to do this for smaller windows.

The only thin I can think of is the proper mesh screens that you see on most windows in Europe and US. They must be available somewhere in UK although it would be far cheaper to make your own.

I have in the past used that trellis that expands for putting on walls for plants to grow up.

The kitchen windows open onto our frontage. Then they can get near a road. They do go outside into the garden via the back door
