By the way quarantine is VERY expensive .I got a quote for someone 2 years ago and the cheapest was £1500 !

Yikes! I've been told UK have relaxed the laws somewhat of late and basically all that's needed is a 'passport-type' document and a blood test for one's dog. Intend visiting my vet here in Cape Town soonest. Thanks for your input thus far ...
The relaxed laws do not apply to imports from places where rabies is endemic such as South Africa. You will need the full quarantine. The people I got quotes for were coming from Zimbabwe.
More information here, you must arrange an import licence before you travel and you can only arrive via Heathrow or Gatwick as they are the only airports that have facilities to take the dog direct to quarantine.

You also have to use an approved carrier (airline) that is registered to carry animals for quarantine . Again VERY expensive , more than the ticket for a person!
