My bank (Natwest) has decided to charge me 28 for going over my overdraft limit when a papyment of little over 1 was taken out. I want to send them a letter asking for it back.
Is there a template letter I can use to recover the "maintenance fee" they are applying to my account?

There is currently a major law case in progress which will confirm whether banks can legally charge this fee.

Only after the case has been settled will you be able to recover any fees (if the banks lose)
In a one off situation like this it is worth telephoning them in the first instance - and grovelling,

If you usually conduct your account properly they are likely to refund as a goodwill gesture.

Whatever you do, don't 'demand' at this stage - you must have been aware of the terms and conditions of the account.

Thanks Ethel. I DID ring them up but the person said No. It very much depends on luck, as the person you get on the phone could be nice or it could go the other way.
