I haven't tipped the postie in the past as I had very few deliveries and rarely saw him. This year has been very different with more online shopping and lots of friendly contact especially in the summer when we were in the garden.

I'd like to thank him this year for being an absolute treasure, whats the going rate?

I always give ours £10
a fiver perhaps, we don;t see the same posties at all any more,
£20

I always tip our post lady with a couple of bottles of wine. She is brilliant, if we are out she will take our parcel home, leaving a card telling us to collect from Number xx and we pop round for it. The advantage of being in a village with a local postie.
Always give mine £10
Stuff the postie she's been working all year...I haven't.

Maybe she should deliver me a food parcel?
We always used to tip people before the minimum wage came in but now we only tip our self-employed window cleaner. We have a pool of around 6 postpersons so won't be tipping them but my wife always tips the young person that washes her hair at the hairdressers, not the salon owner who cuts it.
£10 here as well , same as the gardener and I usually get a box of beer for the bin men
We've always given ours a card with £10 inside but since lockdown we have had so many different ones that we won't be doing it this year. We missed ours for a couple of weeks when lockdown started and asked if he was ok. Was told that as he doesn't drive he now has to work inside the office. He normally arrived with another chap and they then went their on their separate rounds but now the royal Mail only allow one person per van.
I would feel very uncomfortable giving the postmen a cash tip. The only people I give a tip to are the window cleaners for the main reason the chaps are ex-offenders who have been given a second chance. I give them £10 each and a tin of sweets.
Have never seen my postie. Always tip my window cleaners (two self-employed young family men) They work their socks off all year and were hit really hard during lockdown.
All the postie brings me are bills and junk mail. And he never closes my gate. Not a Jack Palance of him getting a tip at chez 4155.
A bottle of wine and a box of chocolates for our postie AND we get a Christmas card from him.
tenner
( and dont ask for change)

Not a chance, we rarely see the same postie 2 days running, gates left open etc, it ain't going to happen.

Well I feel even more appreciative of our postie having read about some of your experiences.

Ours is the same guy ever day and always has a smile and a friendly chat. If we are out he leaves our parcels in our safe place. When he sees us he checks that we found it OK and was it OK to leave it there.

I think I'll give him £20 in a card. I thought about chocolates or drink but as a recipient of those myself in the past, I sometimes had too many at Christmas and gave them away.
We never have takeaways, only during Covid ,at the weekend to support our local Italian restaurant..Lobster..
Was it good value? No idea...Mrs sqad payed and I didn't ask.
yes, ours is always the same and talks nicely to and pets the dogs we've had since we lived here. he always hides our parcels too. £10
LOL....wrong thread.
