I've just been to Waitrose.

The food bank donation box was filled with Easter eggs. Do they actually want these?

Perhaps someone should put some packets of fags in too.

//but they'd rather proper donations such as spam or beans than treats like easter eggs// Spath, I work for a foodbank, at times like Easter and Xmas we ASK for treats to give out alongside other food.

Maybe a treat they couldn't afford?
People are thinking of the children no doubt, perhaps not the best choice.
Bit harsh.

It's a treat for the kids. You can get an Easter egg for £1.

When I donate to food banks I always put in sweets.
If i used a food bank I'd be disappointed if i got an Easter egg and not a can of beans or tuna.

However, better to donate something than nothing.
Spath - you can get both.
It’s very nice of people to donate anything useful for foodbanks. What child/ teenager/ man or woman doesn’t like a bit of chocolate. My personal view is it’s non of my or others business what is donated.
Do kids want Easter eggs? Are you kidding? I think it's lovely to give Easter eggs for the children at Easter who mightn't have them otherwise.
I think Easter Eggs are really good idea. A treat for people with little money for groceries who perhaps can't afford to buy them.
In our Tesco there is a separate foodbank box for Easter Eggs. I was planning on putting some in when I do my big shop, later in the week. It’s nice for the little ones to have a treat, don’t you think.
Unlike fags, Easter Eggs are in fact food items and a welcome treat for a family. Yes they do actually want them.
Just because people are poor doesn't mean that they don't deserve treats
I still find it difficult to understand the need for food banks.
I still cannot understand why a child need to go to school on Monday, dirty unkempt, and hungry.

Well I can, ....poor parenting, but this is not accepted as a reason.

In the 1940's and 50's we didn't see food banks and even the poorest people made sure that their children went to school, clead, tidy and fed and that was before we have had nearly 60 years of the Welfare State.
Also, there was no sophisticated methods of contraception which is offered today as well as the absence of free menstrual equipment for the girls.
Was the bath invented when you were young Sqad or was it a beans can next to the fire place with some stock in it?
;oP
LOL......all one needed was a sink, carbolic acid , water and a parent in attendance.
"carbolic acid"

LOL :D
LOL...Carbolic soap.
Gosh, Sqad, have you looked at pictures from the 40's or 50's? People lived in squalor.
pfthahaha
Ummm we've all seen mary poppins ;)
We send an Ocado delivery once a month to our local foodbank and I know that unenlightened eyebrows are sometimes raised when they see toilet rolls, deodorants, toothpastes, razors and the like alongside the usual foodstuffs.

Being poor doesn’t mean you shouldn’t treat your kids (or yourself), nor does it mean you should have to wipe your bum with newspaper or generally keep yourself clean.
