I've had some admiration for the clever Aldi adverts in recent weeks which are very funny and thought provoking. However, their most recent advert with the guy in the armchair comparing two versions of cider is so obviously staged that I can only say pass the sick bucket.

Come on Aldi, let's get back to your previous ingenious adverts. I might just go along and shop at your stores!

That's Football Managers for you, rotten actors.
Well, there's a turnip for the books.
LOL
Putting 'aldi graham taylor' into Google is interesting. Without even opening any of the links I can see that the first page of results includes:

"I don't know how Aldi thought it would work, it's laughable"

"Graham "Turnip Head" Taylor and his Aldi cider advert. "Do I not like that?" Damn right I don't! It's just awful!"

"Aldi Orchard Cider advert / is this a new low for celeb endorsements"

And that's just the first page!

You seem to be one among many, Chamois ;-)
Oh, that was a "celeb" was it ?
Can't say I noticed it was any better or worse than their other ads.
Haven't seen this one, they are usually clever and funny ! I like the tea ad...I like gin !!
celeb - oh is that what he is.
The concept and execution of the advert is very poor. You can work out how it went wrong.

They wanted to promote their cheap Cider in the summer, and this being a World Cup year, a football themed advert seemed like a good idea. Unfortunately, a current player probably wouldn't be allowed to promote alcholic drinks (odd, as some have drinks sponsors on their shirts). A current manager would also probably not do it. Any decent recent ex-players are also employed as pundits. So they were left with recent ex-managers to choose from.

Which is how they whittled it down to the hapless Taylor. As the comments on here seem to prove, the demographic that the advert is aimed at, have no idea who Taylor is, so the joke (as feeble as it is) misses them, and the punchline falls on stony ground.

So what seemed like a good idea, quickly morphed into a dud.
I remember him from Watford days..lived in st Albans..worked not far from vicarage road..glory Elton John days....he used to arrive in a helicopter !
It must be a great advert, you are all talking about it and mentioning the company name.

When are you all going to realise that getting the company name in your head is what it is all about, however it is done.

And in this case it is working.
It was SO obvious that he threw the drink over himself rather than it being an accident when he fell back in the chair !
Usually the Aldi ads are really good and very clever. That one though, is just plain cringeworthy and is copying Leonard Rossiter and the Cinzano adverts, the one where he is on board a plane with Joan Collins(also can't act for toffee!!).
Minty, yes I agree. "I hate tea, I like gin".
Didn't realise it was somebody famous.

But realised immediately that the spill was staged.

The Cinzano Ad shows how it show be done.
