Re: ChatterBank

I have had a thought on how this might be able to work better without staying closed for too long.

If you limit the number of threads in existence at any one time, then this would help reduce the memory required by the site.

I think I never saw more than about 5 pages in any single day, so, if you limit the ChatterBank category to say 700 oustanding threads at any ome time, with the oldest just dropping out of existence when the newest is posted, then this would surely help somewhat, as this would give about 7 to 10 days of threads. People would get used to not being able to go back to really old threads quite easily I think.

I guess it's not just a memory thing, but this might be something to consider for the site as a whole for the future.

frankleigh, I don't think it was so much a memory issue as a foumouthed poster issue!!
sorry for the typo I meant "foulmouthed"

I think they should charge people 20 per year to use the site, that way anyone who comes across the site by chance and think they can misuse it will think twice about joining, It might also deter those with many aliases.

btw..I told Rhett Butler about your suggestion and he said...Frankleigh my dear, I don`t give a damn.

PMSL @ Elvis.

I think charging is the way to go.

I e - mailed ED re. this suggestion, but as yet have had no reply :)

Charging!! No thank you! The technology is available to prevent multiple user names and if people just reported abusive posts rather than entering into conversation with the morons, their comments would be removed automatically after three complaints.
One down, two to go then
Yep looks that way, Elvis :)
I wonder how many people actually miss Chatterbank? There was a close knit group on there, but I wonder what percentage of ABers in general used that section. I think it was a shame it closed, but I can't say it bothers me if it never returns, or is such a comment viewed as heresy?

Drusilla, you are of course, entitled to your opinion, like everyone else.

But CB was more than just another section of AB, it was a place where friends met, and enjoyed each others company.

And I for one, will bother if it never returns :(

I for one used it a lot, i also posted and replied on a lot of other topics. yes i would miss it.
me too..would have been the best xmas pressie ever if we had it back, we have all drifted a bit since the closure and i think thats a real shame!

It wasn't intended as a snobbish comment at all, Elvis and on re-reading I accept I may not have phrased it as well as I should have. My daughters also enjoy the site, but I had to keep a close eye on them when they hovered around CB because it sometimes got a little too fruity in there for a 6 and 9 year old. That's why I wouldn't miss it.
Sorry, if I I upset you.

hi everyone btw :-)
Apology accepted Drusilla
