We have removed some subcategories from The AnswerBank. If we have removed a much loved subcategory then please let us know however, we think the categories we have removed won't be missed.

If you feel like we could reduce the subcategories even more, please let us know.

If you once posted in a subcategory and you find there isn't anywhere to post, please post in the parent category of that subcategory.

The "Shopping" category is now "Shopping & Style".

The "Family" category is now "Family & Relationships".

Please note, any content that existed within subcategories still exists on The AnswerBank. All we have done is removed these subcategories from the menu to discourage members from using them.

"discourage" = "stop", surely? ;)
Very sensible Ed..........I suggested that move months ago -;)
Question Author
You did. Believe it or not, we do listen.
Ed....listening is no good, action is what is needed.

I didn't become internationally famous by just "listening."

-;)
I notice the ‘Politics’ and ‘Current Affairs’ subsections have survived, even though they are hardly used.
Sqad// I didn't become internationally famous //
We already suspected as much. lol
in answer to your OP, it could be construed as exciting (perhaps by someone who sits in a darkened room all day) but it's not exciting with a capital E
danny...LOL.
i sit in a darkened room all day and no, i haven't been tempted to throw a party . . .

Gromit, we think politics is important to keep. Do you feel "Current Affairs" could just tie in with "News"?
"Current Affairs". Family and relationships?
You could consider going further.

Each of these sub-sections show zero questions asked.

Personal Finance
People & Places
Relationships & Dating
Radio
TV
Riddles

I suggested ages ago that in order to keep News free of the mound of stuff that isn’t 'news', 'Politics' be promoted to a main category. I still think that would be beneficial.

Additionally, I would like to see an 'ABers' section for obituaries and enquiries about absent ABers - it would be good to be able to check in one area whether or not people are dead, well, or otherwise - and a 'For the attention of' section to post messages directing other people to threads they may be interested in but may have missed - posts there being restricted to just a few words.

That's my two-pennyworth ….. for the time being.
////Gromit, we think politics is important to keep./////

I don't as it is used so sparsely.

You need to amalgamate "Current Affairs" and "Politics" with NEWS, because in 90% of the time, that is what happens.
I don't know about others but I cannot mind on the last time I looked in the individual topics for threads let alone the sub-categories.

As long as a thread is in the correct category, does it need to be in a specific sub-category?
Question Author
We're looking into adding new main categories so thank you, Naomi24 we will take note. I agree "Politics" would be good as its own entity. Regarding the "ABers section", ChatterBank is a suitable place for this.

- The "Current Affairs" category is now gone.
- The "Relationships & Dating" category is now gone.
While you're amending things, TV is a medium so, "Media & TV" makes no sense, how about just, "Media"?
Question Author
Agreed.
Question Author
We have removed the "Radio" and "TV" subcategories from "Media & TV".
I really don't see the need for a separate Politics category. News is just fine.
Corby, I think some sub-categories are necessary. Because all the stuff posted in 'News' isn’t news, questions in that category quickly disappear from the front page and therefore people abandon the threads. That's why I suggested that Politics, become a main category. That would extend the lives of all those threads.
