Gravatar is an avatar-hosting service, that's now part of Wordpress. (So you need to sign up for a Wordpress account). Once you've signed up, you can upload your chosen avatar to the Gravatar/Wordpress website. When AB's server displays pages here, it contacts Gravatar/Wordpress to see if there's an avatar registered to the same email address as a user...

You already have a thread on this!
I gave you a link to Gravatar the first time you asked.
Question Author
Yes and was told I should have put message to editor. Have I done something wrong? Am new to site. So sorry if I made you cross.
Question Author
Gosh thank you mama. But I followed thread and did what it said, but did not lead to conclusion. Prob my fault. Maybe I'm doing wrong. Sorry!
@brainiac, I advised them to post here on the off-chance that there was a technical issue that the Editor would be better-placed to resolve.

Hopefully following mamya's link, which I assume was https://gravatar.com/ , should be helpful in the meantime.

Gravatar is an avatar-hosting service, that's now part of Wordpress. (So you need to sign up for a Wordpress account). Once you've signed up, you can upload your chosen avatar to the Gravatar/Wordpress website. When AB's server displays pages here, it contacts Gravatar/Wordpress to see if there's an avatar registered to the same email address as a user posting on AB has. If so, it then calls up that avatar and displays it next to the user's screen name.

So it's vital that the email address you use to register with Gravatar/Wordpress is the same one that you used to register with this site. (It's the only way that your avatar can be linked to your AB account). If you're asked to give a 'rating' to your avatar on Gravatar/Wordpress, it's also essential to choose 'G'. (The ratings system is based upon US film classifications, with 'G', for 'general', being the equivalent of a British 'U' film classification).

No Editor online at this time, maybe she can advise you tomorrow.

No need to apologise were all new and rusty once.

Thank you Buenchico your explanation was so thoughtful and well explained. I will try again following these steps. Thank you so much
/// ... were all new and rusty once...///

I'm getting rustier every day ;-)

(P.S. I use the Gravatar/Wordpress route but I've noticed that this also plants my avatar on one or two other sites. I don't know how to avoid this)
Your Gravatar avatar follows your email address around, use a different email on sites you don't want your AB one to show.
Thanks Mamya :-)
A can see a fairy avatar if thats the one
Are you using Wordpress, that the one I use
no its a lapptop
I can see your avatar also.
Why does anyone want an avatar? I don't see the point of it.
your desire for anonymity does you credit, Clarion Thinks - I wonder what he's up to
Well your avatar is hardly revealing is it, jno? Like all of them on here. I don't see the point of it.
To add to Chico's reply:
Some people have more than one email address listed in Gravatar. If this is the case then the one you wish to link to your AB account must be the PRIMARY one, i.e. at the top of the list. If it isn't you can make it so by clicking on the desired address and clicking 'make primary'. Otherwise it will not work.
