You can't get rid of by doing anything on AB.

If you're using Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Pale Moon as your browser though you can install an extension which gets rid of all the countless cookie notice you see while browsing (and which, someone has reported elsewhere on AB, also gets rid of the 'Privacy Setting' box):

I think there's something sinister going on. I installed said extension and for a few weeks the blue box disappeared. This morning my laptop suddenly packed up and I was confronted with the dreaded black screen. I had only been on 30 minutes so it can't have overheated in that short time. I assumed that W 10 was playing silly *** again. I gave up and went back to bed for a few more hours. Five hours later I managed to start up at the third attempt. The blue box is back, though only on AB. I checked that the extension was enabled for this site but it makes no difference, it looks as though it's here to stay. There are dark forces at work.

I used the link @ 19:01 a few days ago when SD posted it, worked no problem.
Today the Blue Bar has returned, anyone got anything that actually works?
i also downloaded the extension which got rid of the blue box but it has reappeared today :-(

Extensions which block things from appearing on websites work by maintaining a database of the web addresses that such things are being sent from.

Reading the posts above suggests that the blue box is now being sent from a new address, which is why it's reappeared. Hopefully that address will soon be added to the database used by the extension.
I don't know about all other sites but of the ones I use it only appears on AB. Go figure. Gnomes or gremlins?

The blue box (rather than more general messages about cookies) has only ever appeared on AB (tothe best of my knowledge). It's generated by the company which pays AB for the right to display ads on this site, rather than by AB itself.
i'm also getting the blue box on a site called pickmypostcode.com

I am seriously thinking of walking away from AB for a while. There are plenty of other Sites that I use that don't have the over moderation and privacy/Advert problems that plague AB at the moment.
The 19:39 post resonates with me. Particularly the first point, and even more the first point over the weekends.
Togo - why not address your issues to the Editor directly?
You can't. In a direct reversal to seemingly all other websites, who ask once then never show owt to do with this cookie approval again, the powers that be here have opted to overlay some privacy settings button on the screen permanently. Unsure why it's considered useful, if it is; seems to just be permanently there for a laugh.
I'm sure that the editor is aware already.

Not sure if that is aimed at me?

If it is, I am simply trying to be helpful, nothing more than that.
I think the Ed is all too fully aware of the angst this is causing certain members but, as she says, this device seems to have been implanted by a third party so she is unable to do anything about it. For my part, I can live with it, it doesn't affect my use of the site, apart from being permanently in your face, but I understand those who can't.
It doesn't bother me, I just ignore it.

It’s a bit better today, just sitting at the bottom of my screen.

Yesterday, it was chasing my cursor up and down. Now, I can ignore it.
