I've asked this before but I'm asking again. In the absence of easily seen and easily 'clickable' topics, 'News' has become a jumble of just about everything. No discussion there lasts long because once threads disappear from the first page, which due to the enormous amount of traffic passing through there, happens very rapidly, in the main, they become forgotten - hence less interest than might otherwise be the case. Talbot has posted a question in 'Politics' and it's the only one there, when really 'Politics' could be taking a lot of the threads that really shouldn't be in 'News' .... but is. Some people have responded to Talbot's thread, but only, I'm guessing, because they've seen it in 'Latest Posts' as I did - not because they've searched the sub-categories.

Help! 'News' is drowning!!

Oops! Two 'pleases' in that heading. Shows how desperate I am. ;o)
good point, lets hope that ED is listening in.
Sorted Naomi !
Ah right see what you mean..
I keep trying in politics ... I keep trying.

You are right though news is used for everything now ... very much to its detriment.
Well I'm confused, dot.com. So, if Corbyn makes a new political statement, is that politics or news? Personally I couldn't give a monkey's; it's the title of the thread which attracts my interest, not the category.
Maybe it's your age JD.

One of the problems is News, is more and more used for opinions ...too many opinions with no real current news content.
You have answered your own question.

You should post in Politics if you want to make it more popular.

The fact that News is a popular section is a success for AB. They want page views to make advertising r3venue, so they are never going to sabotage that.
I think part of the problem is that, since the wonderful new format, lots of people, including myself, no longer look at sub-categories. The result is, if you don't see a thread whilst it is still in the "Latest Posts" you don't see it all.
bug is correct.......sub headings are sparsely used and now unnecessary.
All sections now seem a "free for all" and i do support naomi's plea.
Bug? Lol, Squid.
I know, Iknow!..........LOL ^^^^^
Naomi,
I just tried to see the politics section, and I realise the new site does not have a link to it.

I think it is Talbot who posted there. I think he must have had an old bookmark to be able to do that.
But that means the post is unfindable by anyone else after it has dropped off the Latest Posts.

When the Politics section was findable, no one used anyway, which is why it all amalgamated to News.
It's a good job I don't offend easily or I might demand a free appendectomy as compensation.
It is findable, but only from the Home Page. If like me, you have bookmarked a section and enter AB that way, there is no ‘+’ by the News section.

Gromit, //I realise the new site does not have a link to it. //

The link to 'Politics' is tucked away under the + next to 'News' in the drop down box, top right.
Question Author
Sorry, Gromit. Cross-posted.
Perhaps it is because I mainly use a mobile device to post, but I mostly do not see the + symbol.
I have looked at the other sub sections, and most of those only have one post, so the point of having them at all is dubious.
When we redesigned the website one of the things we were going to do was remove some of the sub-categories and promote some of them to become main categories. This didn't happen for reasons I'm unsure of but I think we should revisit it.

Are there any other sub-categories that you would like to see become main categories?
