Less keen on 2.

Not overly fussed whether it is as square as possible, or a normal list.

May sub categories could be seen by hovering over an arrow to the right of the category ?

We'll either add a little + to expand, or remove sub categories/move them up.

That long menu for option one means you will have to scroll down to select your category... did you all mean to vote for that one? :)

No they didn't Ed (just like Brexit....ha ha). Option 2 doesn't obscure anything and you don't have to scroll. Got to be the intelligent option.

Two across will allow the majority of devices to show all of the categories without having to scroll. (smaller mobiles excluded) so option two gets my vote. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Ed.

I previously voted for the wrong one. I went for two across but I voted for 'B' the second option.

I too it seems have voted incorrectly - foolishly expecting A,B,C to be in the same order as the options above.
