Why Do People Yawn

What causes people to yawn and why do we open our mouths so wide? We don't draw any extra air in so why do we do it? Strange innit!!xx

I think we do draw in extra air. Most of the time we breathe really shallow breaths and sometimes our body needs more oxygen.

Some people yawn when they are anxious.

Boxtops I'm glad its not just me.I tend to agree with Lee Evans that the reason yawning is contagious is because there is only one yawn in the world and we have to keep it going lol
