Morning All

I live in a ten storey tower block which is currently standing above a building site (shopping precinct being re-developed). Some residents have thrown over a tv, two double mattresses, beer cans & bottles during the evening, not that it is condoned, but nobody working on site at night when items have been thrown over. The builders are now insisting on installing cctv on site pointing at our properties. This would mean they can see us in our living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens etc. Would this be a breach of the residents privacy & what are the regulations about cctv?

I think the purpose is to act as a deterrent to those throwing stuff off the balconies/out of windows. I expect the cameras will be pointed up at those points and will not be looking into the properties to see what's happening in the bedrooms etc.
And if they are you could always pull your curtains.
have to agree - what's wrong with curtains? As far as i'm aware it's perfectly legal to film
If you are concerned write to the company and remind them of their responsibilities under the much maligned article 8 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
Yes tony, but if it is a private concern who have sited the cameras they are not bound by the HRA. It only applies to government and quasi-State organisations such as local councils and government agencies.

Thanks everybody for your replies. Have a meeting with the company in question on Monday.
I think you may find NJ that no organisation wishes to be known as not concerned over human rights.
