Ed, why not? I was pointed to this post a couple of months ago but missed it in LP so have only just found it and replied to it. However, as it doesn't appear in LP, the OP (if still around) probably won't spot it. Is this correct, do old threads fall out of LP after a certain time? I thought if there was an answer, the answer would still appear in LP? http://www.theanswerb.../Question1081243.html

Yes- I think they fall out after a certain period of time after the thread starts. Even if replies are added daily the thread eventually disappears from Latest Posts. I think Ed has made sure though that the AB Apotheosis thread stays on there
They "Fall Out" after 30 days, it's to stop threads like this:

coming back from the dead.

Do we think we should remove this limit?
In most other forums resurrecting an old thread is called necro bumping and is considered bad forum etiquette.
Anything in LP rarely lasts more than a few minutes anyway so the chances of the OP being online and spotting it are probably slim. (unless they're a all day ABer)
*an all day
Ab Editor - please, in your infinite wisdom, don't kill off the Apotheosis thread!

The early posts are part of our sacred scriptures, and are vital to the understanding of the faith.
No, I resurrect that thread every time I'm nudged :)

It's also bad graveyard etiquette Daffy!

We could extend the limit a little bit? 6 weeks say?
Perhaps apotheosis should have a permanent and separate link still 4178 is a good target to aim at...
Am I wrong in thinking that, although an old thread does not appear in 'Latest Posts', if the OP has 'threaded' to their question, any late reply will still appear as an entry in their 'Subscribed Threads' list. ?

If you mean "If you subscribe to a question it will appear in your subscribed list" then: No, you are not wrong.
Thanks Ed for your confirmation, which indicates that boxtops reply to trolly could well be picked-up by her.

Ron.
I think that four weeks is perfectly sorted for a Reply to appear in the recent post box. no need to extend it as most people will subscribe if it has caught their interest... with of course the exception those that are requested to be extended like what happens with the 'Stickies'.

Yes I see - if trolly had subscribed, she'd still see it. I just get the feeling that a lot of people don't subscribe to their own threads, judging by the number of times we see "I'm asking this again because I can't find my last question..."
I often forget to 'subscribe' to my questions. Hence the reason for my view that all questions should be subjected to an 'automatic subscription'. However, although in the past I have suggested such, I cannot recall that there was any response from the Ed on the matter. (perhaps I missed it because of a 'non-subscription')

But so many threads we start are fun trivia thing that we don't need to follow up on anyway. It would seem daft to me to block everyones in boxes with subscribed thread notices just because one or two people can't keep track of their activity I use the search facility or my profile to track back its pretty quick
I think that used to happen, Ron. Every time you got an answer, you got an email. Of course once people started chatting you got a lot of emails alerting you to what turned out to be rubbish. But on balance it was a useful service and I wouldn't mind having it back.
rowan, perhaps CB could be excluded from the alerts function
an opt out button maybe
I think it used to be an opt-in button (you could tick or untick a box at any stage, not just when you posted the question, though I could be misremembering). Either would be fine.
Perhaps the present process could be reversed and instead of the present 'subscribe' button appearing first it was replaced by an 'unsubscribe' one.

I hope you can follow what I am trying to explain.

Ron.
