The avatar gets linked to your e mail address which means that every site that insists you use gravatar for the icon ends up with the same picture no matter how inappropriate. Unless you open more e-mail accounts of course.

Simples. Suppose I go to another site and register as, oh I don't know, 'Baby Duckling' or something like that. How is an Old Geezer's face going to be appropriate? Obviously if the name one chooses holds no meaning for others then that isn't a problem. But I like to have something meaningful if I can. Suppose you register as 'Flamingo Girl' elsewhere ?
