chilli con carne in a tortilla wrap with salad)
chilli con carne over baked potoato or chips with cheese.
chilli con carne in a baguette with cheese.
thick spicy bolognese over chips in a baguette, over baked potoato with cheese.
dutch style chips in a cone with raw onions and lots of mayo on top ( yummy)

please add...recipe needs to be easy to make, simple and cheap to source.

nice link eddies, i didnt realise i needed premises etc. looks like a lot of headache for a small return unless you go big with this type of venture and put 2-3 vans on the road.

i may try a small car boot sale or market first .
there is one a bus/cafe on the Boucher Road Belfast.
maybe your not as messy as me, then. I'd have sauce all over my chops and down my blouse in 2 seconds!
Normal 'markup' in catering is 500%.
So what cost £1 in raw materials sells for £5 after cooking/ transport/packing.
Many charge a lot more, the basic cost of the ingredients for a sandwich may cost 30p but it sells for £3.50 . Presentation is all important in getting a good price.

Try a veggie option, there are a lot of them about and Jenny's veggie soup is a good idea as the winter looms

jennyjoan ive never seen it ?

eddies ...good advice thanks
DD you can't use your own home kitchen to cook the food unless you register it as a commercial kitchen. The only exceptions are for 'one offs' for a charity event or similar.
I work for an agency in 'Pro' kitchens over a wide area so I know a bit about it.
Also you will not be able to sell food at Car Boot sales or Markets. People have to pay a lot of money for pitches at these Events. Even if you want to make sandwiches at home and sell them from a van you need a licence from the council which will include proof of a food hygiene certificate. Sorry to Pees on your parade but selling food is a nightmare.
It bothers me greatly that you don't seem to know too much about food, judging by you requests for advice in Food&Drink. You openly admit that you will need to do an Indian cookery course to equip yourself with some basic skills and understanding of Indian cookery.

The failure rate in the food industry is frightening, even when you have competent cooks but a poor business acumen - I've seen no evidence that you have either and that automatically puts you on the back foot.

To be contemplating menus before even considering the bigger picture just goes to show that your heart is leading your head here.

Please, reconsider this or you'll be throwing good money after bad.
I'm a competent cook. My accountant suggested I did mobile cookery. In reality it wasn't feasible.
Not too far from us there is a large lay-by off a main road where a man-in-a-van sells things like potatoes, other assorted veg., eggs etc.. This may be easier to arrange because no cooking is involved. He has apparantly been there for years so he must make a living.

If you are talking about industrial estates - well, employees need to pick up bits of shopping from somewhere and you could have regular stopping places. Just a thought :)
