I'm thinking now it could possibly be Dominic Littlewood as suggested janbee. My head's wrecked now.
Harry Enfield or Paul Whitehouse. They used to be decorators before becoming famous.
Question Author
Cheers Tilly2. I'll check out YouTube
Actually, Alvina, it was Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson. They were doing some work in Harry Enfield's house and he 'discovered' them.
Got that wrong as well, Gawd!

'The pair began working as tradesmen on a house shared by comedians Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, which inspired them to start writing comedy. They moved to an estate where in a pub they met Harry Enfield, a neighbour with a stage act,[6] and after he gained a place on Channel 4's Saturday Live, the pair were invited to write for him.[5] Whitehouse created Enfield's character Stavros a London-based Greek kebab shop owner, and then Loadsamoney an archetypal Essex boy made good in Margaret Thatcher's 1980s; he also appeared as Enfield's sidekick Lance on Saturday Live.'

No worries Tilly2 all ideas and help welcome. The DJ said today that his producer reckons the competition will go on till at least Christmas and that this person is "very famous" so the clue DIY might not be of much help
Could it possibly be Prince Charles? He was once rushed to hospital in an ambulance after hitting his thumb with a hammer while doing a spot of DIY.
Question Author
I don't think Prince Charles because it sounds younger and not as posh.
Question Author
I would say there is a slight huskiness in their voice maybe British male singer/actor who has done DIY in a former life
Kevin McCloud if the DIY is a straight clue? I've just heard it and didn't realise the voice only said "yes" lol
Question Author
Hi there Scorpiojo - they haven't got Kevin on the list of wrong answers but someone said him in the last week x
Question Author
Ok - does anyone who's heard it think it could be Thom Yorke? Radio head had an EP called Drill and it rather sounds like him - softly spoken.
