What do you guys consider to be the best way to get a stable internet connection other than the usual "Big Guns" i.e. Sky / Talk Talk / Virgin etc. I'm sure there must be other "un-sung" ISP's out there. Tel

most other ISP's rent the line from BT so despite the letter head saying "joe bloggs fast broadband" you are still using BT.

I have found virgin to be the better of a bad bunch but depending where you live that could vary.
Virgin have been very good for me for consistently good levels of connection. At work we use PlusNet who are pretty cheap and we have had no real issues with them
I think the main thing is to establish what type of connection is available in your area and what speeds are attainable.

Been with BT for a while now, always renegotiate when Contract is up.
Consistently get 42+ D/load and 17+ U/load
Don't forget that unless you have access to Virgins cable network all other ISPs use BT to supply the telephone line. So you are going to need BT one way or the other.

I have been with BT for over 20 years and despite some difficulty a few weeks ago, I haven't had any trouble. Plusnet is well spoken of but its now owned by BT!
oh ha blinking ha I get 3.49 download and 0.75 upload and it doesn't matter who I use because we are 'in the sticks' and yes in the UK.
Mikey they have been owned by BT for several years, but continue to operate their own business.
It all depends on whether you telephone line has access to "Fibre to the Cabinet" or not. If you haven't, it doesn't matter what ISP you use....you still won't be able to get high speeds.

Check with the BT website to see if their " Infinity" is available.

Avoid BT. At the moment I am having to 'reset' the system about four times a day. Infuriating.
This is sadly your area, JennyKenny. It generally is BT, as established.
Jenny...If you having to reset your Router as many times a day as that, then it looks as if you are having network problems...if that is so, then it would be effecting everybody else in your locale.

But get BT to check your Router out !
