Do you need to logon to your router at some point?

I have never connected a TV to the internet so not sure of the process, but most devices you need to logon with your wifi logon and password.

Also is you wi fi password mixed case and can your TV remote cope with that?
I'm rather lost!

You've written "I can not get the web browser to come up". That's hardly surprising because your TV connects to the internet, not to the world-wide web. (i.e. it can access services provided over the internet but you can't browse the web with it, so there's no web browser).

Start at 'Configuring Wireless Device Settings' on page 20 of the manual. That tells you how to get your TV's dongle to 'see' your router and how to make the connection between the two. Then go to 'Internet Portal' on page 22. That tells you how to bring up the available internet apps.
Buenchico, I have never connected my TV to the internet but I understood you COULD surf the web from your TV and some of them do ship with web browers.

Search on "Smart TV web browser" and you see it mentioned on many web sites.

One web site had a Q&A and said as follows:

12. Can you surf the Web on a smart TV?

Some, but not all, smart TVs will let you go online. It requires a special browser that's not only compatible with all the HTML standards that websites use, but that can also convert and display those sites properly on a big screen.

If you want to be able to surf the Web on your TV, make sure your set has its own browser. Also ask if there's a wireless keyboard option.
I'm going by the user manual, VHG.

I can't get a direct link to it but it can be accessed by starting here:
https://estadoc.hitachi.eu/index.htm
Enter '50' into the left-hand field and then click on '50HXT16U'.
Click on 'Search' and then on 'English'.
