Is it easy to replace the thermostat in a fridge? our fridge has died, but the freezer below is fine.

We are guessing the thermostat has gone. Is this the most probable diagnosis?

thanks

hi,

this is a difficult one, it depends on the fridge freezer you have got. Is it a 'frost free' appliance ? if so it could be a defrost timer,a deviation thermostat, a fan motor, defrost heaters, the list goes on. If its a conventional fridge freezer it could be the thermostat, then again it could be a system leak ( loss of refrigerant gas) or a faulty compressor ( expensive and specialist ). I would recommend a refrigeration engineer. Lots of them about, but go for one that offers free estimates and/or callout.
